The Childersburg City Council met on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. with the following agenda of items for action:
The Council voted to approve Ordinance 1124, which gave approval to surplus 12.16-acres of City property located on Highway 76 to Alabama Childhood Food Solutions and authorizes Mayor Ken Wesson to execute necessary Documents.
Approval was also given for Ordinance 1125, which gave approval to surplus property located at 705 1st Street SW (formerly known as the Black-Eyed Susan) to Randy and Padgette McGrady in the amount of $28,900 with the buyer responsible for closing costs, and authorizing Mayor Ken Wesson to execute all necessary documents.
The Council also approved a pair of Resolutions during the meeting.
Resolution 2022-37 gave approval for the City to participate in current and future opioid settles and authorizes the Mayor and City Clerk. to execute necessary documents.
Resolution 2022-38 awarded a contract for road repair and patching of City streets and sidewalks to Chilton Contractors Inc. for a two-year period.
In other New Business, the Council gave approval to pay F.O.P. membership dues for 18 Police Officers at a cost of $540 from Fund 13.
The department was also approved to hire Aaron Gaffney, James Tucker, and Dylan Jenkins as police cadets, full-time at a rate of $15.50 per hour effective August 29th. They will attend the Police Academy starting on October 31, 2022. The pay rate will increase to $17 per hour upon successful completion of the Academy.
The Council gave approval to accept the resignation of Rick McClelland as Police Chief, effective 08/11/2022. Captain Kevin Koss was appointed as Interim Police Chief with a salary adjustment of $600 biweekly.
The Council gave approval for the Street Department to promote James Woods to Crew Leader with a boost in his hourly rate of pay.
Also gaining approval was MM Integrity to perform repairs to the Mural Wall location on 1st Street downtown prior to repainting of the mural. The cost is $1,340.
Approval was given for payment of invoices in the amount of $167,181.41.
