HSCU Robbery Suspect captured in Mississippi

The Sylacauga Police Department announces the arrest of Griffin Allen Thompson. Thompson was wanted for the robbery of the US Hwy 280 branch of Heritage South Federal Credit Union. The robbery took place on January 12, 2024 at approximately

9:25AM. It is believed that Thompson entered the Credit Union and passed the teller a note demanding money.

Griffin Allen Thompson is a white male, forty-nine (49) years old. He is 5’11” tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds and is a resident of Sylacauga. Thompson was taken into custody at approximately 1:15 PM by Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department and the US Marshall’s Service, in Neshoba County, Mississippi. Thompson is charged with Robbery 1st Degree. The warrant was issued by Talladega County Circuit Judge Chad Woodruff. Thompson, when extradited back to Talladega County, will have a $100,000.00 cash bond also set by Judge Chad Woodruff.

We would like to thank the Talladega County District Attorney’s Office, Talladega County Sheriff’s Department, Talladega County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, and the other departments that assisted in the swift identification and arrest of Thompson.

The crime of Robbery 1st Degree is a Class “A” Felony. A Class “A” Felony is punishable by a sentence of life imprisonment or not more than 99 years or less than 10 years in prison.

Kiwanis Club of Childersburg Annual Golf Tournament

CHILDERSBURG, AL SEPTEMBER 19, 2023– The Kiwanis Club of Childersburg held its annual golf tournament at the Coosa Pines Golf Club on Monday, September 18th. This event was a huge success with a profit of $9,802.07. The majority of the funds will be used to resurface the grounds around the equipment at Kiwanis Park, fund scholarships and other projects that benefit the children of the community.

Childersburg man charged with Capital Murder

The Sylacauga Police Department has arrested a 22-year-old Childersburg man on a Capital Murder charge.

Marquese Donnell Duncan has been returned to Talladega County from a military assignment at Fort Campbell in Kentucky via US Marshals. He is charged in the Sunday, July 2nd shooting death of 19-year-old Jason Anthony Swaib, Jr.

The shooting occurred at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Scrouge Alley on the outskirts of the area known as the Mill Village.

Duncan is being held without bond in the Talladega County Jail.
